“THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE SOLO CELLIST TO HIS OBBLIGATO ARIA WAS SIMPLY OUTSTANDING; I COULD HAVE LISTENED TO HIM ALL NIGHT.”

– Mark Berry, Boulezian

British-American cellist, Cameron Grimes, has established himself as an enterprising chamber and orchestral musician. He recently completed a Master of Arts degree from the Royal Academy of Music in cello performance, with a second study in Baroque cello.

As an orchestral musician, Cameron has played with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, Royal Academy Symphony, Chamber, Opera, and Baroque Orchestras, Jersey Chamber Orchestra, NIH Philharmonia, The Kindler Cello Society, and Academy of Saint Cecilia Orchestra.

Cameron enjoys working most as a chamber musician and has collaborated with many ensembles and chamber musicians, including the Emanuel String Quartet, of which he was a founding member and cellist for ten years. He has also performed at numerous music festivals around the world, including Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival (USA), Burgos International Music Festival (Spain), Cambridge International String Academy (UK), Prague Summer Nights: Young Artists Music Festival (Czechia), St Marylebone Festival (UK), and the Blaricum Music Festival (Netherlands).

An experienced baroque cellist, Cameron played continuo for the Royal Academy of Music/Kahn Foundation Bach Cantata Series, as well as a collaborative production of Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera between the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. In addition, he has played continuo on modern cello for various operas and choral masterpieces, including the Royal Academy’s production of Handel’s, Alcina, for which he was praised in reviews.

Throughout his musical career he has worked and collaborated with artists, such as Semyon Bychkov, Trevor Pinnock, Rodney Friend, Elina Vahala, Iian Ledingham, Jane Glover, Mathieu Herzog, and the late Marvin Hamlisch. In addition to classical musicians, Cameron has collaborated with other various artists, including Broadway actress and singer, Stephanie J. Block, singer/songwriter James Baxter, and Grammy-award winning composer and music producer Stephen Blake Kanicka. In addition, Cameron has given world-premiers for a number of compositions and recorded for various artists' debut albums. He also records for film and television and has previously recorded for BBC One’s television programme, Songs of Praise, TBN UK’s Christmas Day Special, BBC’s mini-series, Vanity Fair, and Fox Searchlight Pictures film, Tolkien.

Cameron studied with Troy Stewart at the Peabody Institute, and then continued his studies with Emanuel Gruber at East Carolina University where he was accepted on music scholarship. In 2012, Cameron graduated with his Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance, and in 2015 he was accepted to the Royal Academy of Music where he earned a Master of Arts degree.

Cameron plays on an English cello made in London, circa 1770, which is believed to be from the workshop of Joseph Hill.

In addition to his work as a cellist, Cameron has an impressive history working in arts administration, primarily in operations management. In 2012, he was hired by the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and later worked for a concert touring company where he organised and managed international tours for many prestigious orchestras and choirs, including the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, and the famed German boychoir, Windsbacher Knabenchor.

Cameron has also assisted in managing music for special events, including the Nelson Mandela memorial service at the Washington National Cathedral, and the “Raise it Up! Anthem for America” choral festival with world-renowned composer and guest conductor, Eric Whitacre. In 2015, he was appointed Festival Manager of the Prague Summer Nights Young Artists Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic.

In autumn 2017, Cameron founded Augustine Noble Ltd, an international concert touring company and artist management agency based in London. With over sixteen years of concert touring experience, Cameron has toured with a myriad of orchestras, choirs, and other musical ensembles in over twenty countries throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.
